Winter Solstice is the longest night of the year. For many Earth-based cultures, Solstice is a time to turn in towards the dark and open to the re-emergence of the light. This gathering continues this tradition with a somatic-expressive approach to ceremony, honoring the need of our body to slow down and settle into stillness.

In this contemplative afternoon, we will use movement, sound and stillness as doorways into our interior. This ceremony is a time to regenerate and rejuvenate as well as celebrate the return of the light into our lives. Please wear comfortable clothing for movement and bring: a standing candle, a bell (if you have one) and a cushion for sitting.

Jamie McHugh is a performance artist, ritualist, teacher and photographer. He has been teaching movement-based work and guiding expressive ritual for over twenty-five years. He is a long-time collaborator with Anna Halprin and is on faculty at John F Kennedy University and at Tamalpa Institute. Jamie is also a fine art photographer, creating large images for public spaces. His work is currently on display at the San Francisco Dance Center through December.  www.SomaticExpression.com
