Modalities on the move - NIA

Written By:

NIA and Biodanza are spreading internationally, tapping into a universal need for meaning, human connection, and authentic experience.

NIA is a form of mind-body fitness that delights the mind while toning the body. Developed by Carlos and Debbie Rosas in 1983, NIA stands for Neuromuscular Integrative Action. Terms like “fun” and “habit forming” are often used to describe the practice that uses both synchronized movements and freeform expression. Using visualizations and vocalizations to ground the action in the body, NIA draws from a variety of disciplines such as yoga, tai chi, and modern dance to allow participants to find the “Body’s Way.” Embodied movement is the key to this dynamic form of dance fitness that’s finding fans worldwide.
